Today, many of us are seeking to amplify our wellness practices as we undergo the ravages of COVID-19 – and for good reason. Truly, our global health is at stake, and no conventional treatment holds the key to our protection. The most reliable means of protection we have is bolstering our immunity. Self-care practices must not merely address our physical health, but also our mental, emotional, and spiritual health – all interrelated aspects of wellbeing. So what can we do?
Consider Reiki, a centuries-old Japanese healing technique that was brought to prominence in the late 1800s by a man named Mikao Usui. It is a natural and safe energy healing modality designed to restore the body's "ki" or lifeforce energy, while addressing imbalances that affect the body, mind, and spirit. Reiki is a holistic treatment, and completely noninvasive. The recipient of the treatment simply draws in the energy of Reiki, through the body’s innate wisdom.
It may surprise you to learn that many hospitals provide Reiki to patients, to help treat illness and optimize health. In recent years, clinical studies have been conducted that assessed Reiki’s effectiveness for a variety of conditions. It was shown to be effective for both disease state management and stress management. Patients often report feelings of well-being, peace, and relaxation with Reiki. Beneficial results may be witnessed immediately or progress over time.
Reiki is administered either in-person through a laying on of hands, or through distance-healing techniques, optimal during COVID-19. How can Reiki be transmitted effectively through “distance healing” you may ask? Consider the way consciousness works, or the way prayer works. Both have been quantified to produce tangible results when there is no physical source to point to as a foundation. There are no physical boundaries when it comes to the transmission of energy and intention. Consider how it is we often know a loved one is at the other end of a phone before we pick it up. There is an energetic connection that precedes the call. Also consider Masaru Emoto’s experiments with water molecules, where the structure of water was actually changed in form by the energy and intention directed toward it. These examples point to how Reiki travels. One can be anywhere in the world and receive Reiki effectively.
I highly recommend this therapeutic technique for anyone experiencing the effects of COVID-19, chronic disease, stress, or fatigue – and anyone looking to bolster immunity, but who cannot meet in person now, due to the virus and recommendations for social distancing.
